Ankara on Thursday expressed its willingness to share its experience with Dushanbe on the issue of border security. This was stated in a communiqué of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.
"Turkey is ready to share its experience in border security and counter-terrorism. The need to strengthen cooperation in military training between the two countries was stated. Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Mirzo signed a framework military agreement between Turkey and Tajikistan following an interagency meeting," the text reads.
The border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is more than 980 km long, with dozens of disputed sections left after the collapse of the Soviet Union. In some areas there are occasional disputes and conflicts between local residents of border areas, in particular in the Isfara district of Sughd Oblast of Tajikistan. Another meeting of the topographic working groups of the government delegations of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on the delimitation and demarcation of the common state border was held from 5 to 10 April 2022 in Dushanbe.
