An exact copy of the Uthman Quran will move to Bashkiria

28 June 2022

Bashkir Muslims will see the Uthman Quran again 100 years later. This is reported by the newspaper, citing the Muftiate of Uzbekistan.

The ancient Kufic Quran of Uthman, named after the righteous companion of Prophet Caliph Uthman, whose blood stains the pages of this book, is kept in the Muyi Muborak madrasah (Tashkent).

A copy of the Uthman Quran may be delivered to the capital of Bashkortostan, Ufa. This issue was discussed at a meeting between a government delegation from Bashkiria, which was on an official visit to Uzbekistan, and the Muftiate of Uzbekistan.

If the negotiation process is successful, Bashkir Muslims will be able to see with their own eyes an exact copy of the legendary Quran, now in the possession of the Tashkent Muslim community.

The copy will be given to the Eurasian Library which is under construction in Ufa. The calligrapher of the unique edition is expected to be one of the most famous calligraphers of the world, Habibullah Salih, a graduate of Miri Arab madrasah in Bukhara. He is famous as the only specialist of ancient and medieval Islamic calligraphy in the world.

The city of Ufa was not chosen by chance. The fact is that the Holy Quran of Uthman was kept in Ufa from 1918 and for the next five years. The decision was made at the Congress of Muslim clergy in 1923 to send the Quran to Uzbekistan. Riza Fakhretdinov, religious and public figure, theologian and educator, was at the head of the commission on transferring the Quran to Turkestan. It is noteworthy that a special train carriage was allocated to deliver the Quran to Uzbekistan.
