29 June 2023

Elmira Safina, a talented artist from Kazan, presented her personal exhibition, “Cultural Code in Women’s Images”, in Moscow. The exhibition is held at Hidden Place Moscow gallery. Each picture invites the viewer to plunge into a wonderful world of legends and folk tales.

The source of the artist’s inspiration for her paintings dedicated to beautiful women’s destinies reflected in fairy tales and legends was the legend of Tsarina Sujumbike of Kazan.

One of the key elements of the exhibition became the painting “Legend”, based on tales about the Tsarina Regent of the Kazan Khanate.

In her exhibition, Elmira Safina conveyed not only the complex image of the Tatar ruler beloved by the people, but also her own understanding and perception of the national spirit through exploring women’s history in a cultural aspect. After all, it is through historical memory culture and social experience are passed on from generation to generation, strengthening national consciousness.

According to the artist, the pilot exhibition was prepared over the course of a year. The artistic embodiment of the cultural code, its certain destiny, was created not only with the help of oil paints, but also with the help of actual modern techniques, as well as with the help of rough technical burlap and carpets.

‘For me, having grown up and been formed in this city, the legend of the tower is an important part of the female experience. It is about the manifestation of female unpredictability and independence in response to external circumstances. My work reflects the relevance of this controversial legend: this is not a depiction of the tower, but a reflection on women’s destiny,’ Elmira said.

Elmira Safina is a visual artist. She lives and works in Moscow. Elmira received an academic art education. In March 2021 she decided to expand her activities and already has several awards for her works.

The central themes of the artist’s works are the relationship between personal freedom and boundaries, the combination of masculine and feminine energy, the culture of perceiving female images in different contexts, and peculiarities of female thinking and experience.
