A professional calligrapher started writing the first surah of the Holy Book - Al-Fatiha - at Kul Sharif mosque in Kazan as part of the celebration of the 1,100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria, the press service of the Religious Board of Muslims (DUM) of Tatarstan told reporters on Wednesday.
"The experience of preparing a handwritten mushaf in the modern world exists in the KSA, Turkey, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Libya, Morocco and Pakistan. Now Kazan undertakes such work. Specialists will have to refer to primary sources and scientific research to ensure that the spelling of the words is accurate and error-free," the press service reports.
The handwritten Quran will be ready in two years, as each page takes two days to complete.
When working on the mushaf, to avoid canonical errors, Kazan specialists will rely on the works of Musa Bigiev "Tashih resmi khat" and Shigabutdin Marjani "Fawaid al-Muhimma," which also describe the methodology for compiling the mushaf. In addition to the correct and artistic spelling of the words and letters in the mushaf, it is important to keep these words and letters readable, since non-Arab readers may not understand the Arabic script.
Artur Pisarenko, a student of famous khattat Ramil Nasybullov, the founder and director of the Center of Arabic calligraphy and Islamic arts "Al-Namir al-Muhattat" at the Russian Islamic Institute, was chosen as the main performer of the project. World-renowned Muslim scholar from Dubai, theologian and descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, Sheikh Ma'mun al-Rawi, was also invited as a consultant. In addition, experts from other regions of Russia and foreign countries are included in the commission.
