Oh, Zam-Zam! What a wonderful well! A miracle for all times!
In the main mosque of Muslims in Mecca in 18 meters from the Black stone there is a sacred spring Zam-Zam.s
Only 21 meters separate Kaaba from Zam-Zam well. The mouth of the well is located underground parallel to the Kaaba basement. The spring has 2 outflows where clear water flows out in four places. One of them is on Kaaba side, and another one is located at the bottom of a mountain.
This ancient well is always clean. The minimum speed of outflow of water from Zam-Zam spring is 11 l/sec., and maximum speed is 18.5 l/sec.
It is surprising that such inexhaustible well is located at only 31 meters underground.
The travel of the blessed spring begins with pumping out of water from the well by means of two huge water pumps which work 24 hours a day in shifts.
Soon after that the water comes to the Center of the king Abdullah Bin Abdul of Aziz. Zam-Zam water pumping is conducted with special pipelines to keep unique qualities of the sacred spring.
As for the mosque of the Prophet in Medina, there it is transported in the tankers having certain technical performance.
Valves are securely closed to prevent any external action towards water.
Nobody can open them, except the responsible person in the mosque of the Prophet.
Usually about 150,000 liters a day are transported, but during all over the world Muslims’ influx this figure reaches 400,000 liters a day.
Processes of preparation and pumping of water and also control of pipelines and tankers by the technology of optical fiber are carried out with use of hi-tech systems.
Water is delivered to two sacred mosques in sterile containers, is carefully distributed in the places intended for drink and ziyadahs.
Containers are prepared in different places – in the Big mosque and in the mosque of the Prophet.
Then they are moved with special carriers in and outside of two mosques.
For own convenience visitors can drink cold water or use disposable plastic cups, about 2 million pieces are daily delivered.
Covers of the containers are securely closed in order to avoid a fake or pollution. And at special stations stages of periodic cleaning and sterilization of containers are carried out.
The fixed drinking fountains can be found either inside, or outside of the main mosques in Mecca and Medina. Additional tanks are available for cold water during the season. Also new containers for transportation of water in a backpack were added to deliver water to the crowded places. In addition, the management of two main mosques of all Muslim world provided people with bottles with filtered water which are distributed between praying in the first row.
The amount of the potable waters of Zam-Zam in the Main mosque fluctuates within 700,000 liters a day, but throughout all season this figure reaches 2 million liters.
Regularly the water samples are taken from the containers, and drinking fountains and containers are checked 24/7. All this is made in order that impurity or bacteria do not get into water. For testing about 100 samples are gathered in special laboratory every day.
In 2010 in Kaday in Mecca the king Abdullah of bin Abdul Aziz opened the plant that marked itself as a break in providing with water of Zam-Zam. Thanks to this plant, people got rid of excessive efforts which were made in attempt to receive a water drop from a spring.
At present new, exclusive security measures which allow to guarantee safety of water against pollution have been conducted and it prevents unauthorized access to the spring. Following the conforming international standards of automation, today process of bottling is automatic.
What does this project represent? It includes the automated central warehouse for storage and distribution of 1.5 million liters of bottles per day. For simplification of access for families and certain individuals to Zam-Zam, barcode readers which allow to make distribution of bottles with water automatic, after scanning of receipts were put into operation.
