Russia and Bahrain sign memorandum of understanding on space exploration

Roscosmos State Corporation and the National Space Science Agency of the Kingdom of Bahrain have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes. This was announced Monday on the Roscosmos website.


Roscosmos Director-General Dmitry Rogozin said the bilateral relations between Russia and Bahrain have reached a new level in recent years. "The Memorandum of Understanding opens the way to increasing bilateral cooperation in the field of space activities. Sixty years after the historic flight of the planet's first cosmonaut Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin, space continues to attract people's attention, remaining at the forefront of humanity's scientific and technological development. The signing of the memorandum confirms the readiness and desire of Russia and Bahrain to jointly develop projects in this area for the socio-economic development of both countries",  the website of the state corporation quotes Rogozin.


Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Transport and Telecommunications of Bahrain, stressed that the document will become the basis for cooperation in the field of space, it spells out the areas of mutual interest. "The memorandum provides an excellent opportunity to implement the long-term goals and development strategy of the National Space Science Agency of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as Roscosmos State Corporation is one of the leading space organizations in the world," he said.


Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Asiri, Director-General of the National Agency, added that the Bahraini authorities are actively seeking to develop relations with space agencies around the world, especially with such "recognized leaders" as Roscosmos. He also expressed confidence that cooperation between the two countries in the field of space will be significantly expanded.
