Algeria's Permanent Representative to the UN Amar Bendjama pledged during the UN Security Council (UNSC) session to revisit the issue of Palestine's full membership in the global organization.
"We very much hope to do so the next time the Security Council addresses the issue of Palestine's admission. Yes, we will return with renewed determination and with the overwhelming support of the United Nations General Assembly," he stated.
Bendjama emphasized, "The overwhelming support for the admission of the State of Palestine sends a clear message that Palestine deserves its rightful place among the membership of the United Nations."
On Thursday, the United States utilized its veto authority in the UN Security Council to block a draft resolution put forth by Algeria, which sought to admit Palestine as a full member of the global organization. While twelve members of the Security Council, including Russia and China, voted in favor of the resolution recommending Palestine's admission, Switzerland and Britain abstained.
