Almaz-Antey expects Saudi Arabia to be interested in S-400 SAMs

The S-400 Triumf long and medium range surface-to-air missile system (SAM) developed by the Almaz-Antey VKO due to its high performance is likely to be of interest for Saudi Arabia's military specialists. This opinion was expressed by the Concern's General Director Yan Novikov.

"We expect that Saudi Arabia, having evaluated the high characteristics of this air defense missile system [S-400] and our other products, will make an objective choice," Novikov said in an interview with the Russian Natsionalnaya Oborona (National Defense) magazine on the occasion of the company's 20th anniversary.

He noted that Saudi Arabia has traditionally been the largest importer of US weapons, including air defense and non-strategic missile defense systems. Its armed forces have no similar Soviet or Russian systems. Saudi specialists received additional up-to-date information about Russian equipment at the international arms exhibition World Defense Show, which took place in Riyadh in March. The Concern participated in this forum.

The S-400 Triumf is a Russian long- and medium-range anti-aircraft missile system. It is designed to defeat air and reconnaissance weapons (including stealth technology aircraft) and any other aerial targets under conditions of intensive fire and electronic countermeasures. The S-400 was adopted by the Russian Army in 2007.
