Ambassador of Azerbaijan: the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia are not yet ready for the meeting

21 October 2020

It is too early to talk about the meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, as the Armenian side demonstrates destructiveness in its approaches. This was stated on Wednesday by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Moscow Polad Bulbuloglu in an interview with TASS following the visit of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov to the Russian capital.

"As our president, dear Ilham Heydarovich [Aliyev] noted, such an invitation has not been received. And, in my opinion, the situation is not ripened yet," he said, answering a question about whether such a meeting was discussed during Bayramov's visit, given that the leaders of the two countries expressed their readiness for it in an interview with TASS. - "The opposing side continues to demonstrate destructive approaches, and so it's too early to talk about it".

"If such an initiative is shown, it will naturally be properly considered, and the public will certainly be informed about it,"  the Ambassador added.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan will resolutely defend its position on Karabakh based on international law.

The Ambassador pointed out that Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, had previously clearly explained in an interview with TASS under what conditions his country could cease hostilities and how the conflict could be finally resolved.

"I can add from myself that Azerbaijan will continue to strongly defend its position based on international law and justice," he said.

Peaceful settlement of the conflict

The Ambassador also assured that Azerbaijan remains committed to the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, which was confirmed by Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov.

"The main purpose of this visit is to hold consultations with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mr. Sergey Lavrov on the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, the enforcement of peace by Armenia, as well as to discuss issues related to the implementation of previously reached ceasefire agreements in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and the creation of conditions for its sustainable and complete settlement,"  the Ambassador noted.

"At the meeting Minister Ceyhun Bayramov once again confirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to the peaceful settlement of the conflict and the statement adopted on October 10," the diplomat stressed.

Earlier Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the Karabakh issue "has no diplomatic solution for a long time".
