Assad received the Special Representative of the Russian President and Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received Russian President's Special Representative for the Syrian settlement Alexander Lavrentiev and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin in Damascus on Wednesday. This was reported by the office of the Syrian President.


It is noted that Lavrentiev conveyed to the Syrian leader "congratulations of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the successful holding of parliamentary elections in Syria, which confirms the support of the Syrian people for the course of the state to achieve stability in the country and improve the living conditions of Syrians."


The parties also discussed the current situation in Syria and the process of preparing for the meeting of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, which is scheduled to be held in Geneva in August. In addition, the parties expressed their determination to strengthen bilateral relations, resist the difficulties that arise as a result of the policy of some Western countries towards Syria, and "fight the negative impact of the sanctions imposed on the Syrian people."
