Bishkek and Tashkent agree on joint measures to prevent border incidents

Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have agreed to make joint efforts to avoid conflicts on the common border section. This was reported on Friday by the press service of the foreign ministry of Kyrgyzstan.


"On May 6, 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubayev had a telephone conversation with the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov. The sides stressed the need to make joint efforts to avoid negative consequences in the border area and to continue working to strengthen and expand the Kyrgyz-Uzbek cooperation on the basis of friendship and good neighborliness," the statement reads.


The Kyrgyz Border Guard Service said Friday that there was an incident on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border with the use of weapons by Uzbek servicemen. As a result, three Kyrgyz citizens died from gunshot wounds.


"The heads of foreign ministries discussed current issues on the agenda of Kyrgyz-Uzbek relations, exchanged views on international and regional issues, and compared notes on forthcoming foreign policy contacts at the highest and highest levels, including the organization of the state visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Kyrgyz Republic as well as his participation in the plenary session of the Eurasian Economic Forum and meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on May 26-27 this year," the press service reported.
