Russia is hopeful that the ceasefire in Gaza, which took effect on January 19, will create an opportunity for a negotiation process focused on peaceful Palestinian-Israeli resolution. This statement was made by Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, in an interview with Izvestia.
“In recent days, US President Donald Trump’s ideas about relocating Gaza residents and transferring the territory under American control have sparked discussions. Over the 15 months of Arab-Israeli escalation, we have worked to shift the situation into a political and diplomatic framework. We hope that the ceasefire established in mid-January will hold firm and open the door to a comprehensive negotiation process centered on peaceful Palestinian-Israeli resolution. This is the only way to achieve lasting stability in the Middle East,” Bogdanov stated.
He also referenced a recent statement by Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, emphasizing Russia’s commitment to the two-state solution. Middle Eastern countries have also made their stance on the matter clear, Bogdanov noted.
