The Security Council of the Russian Federation announced that high representatives in charge of security issues, gathered in the "Friends of BRICS" format, have reaffirmed their dedication to advancing a multipolar world system, based on the principles of sovereign equality and trust.
The meeting, attended by Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev representing the Russian Federation, took place in Johannesburg and addressed a wide range of topical international security issues, focusing on prospects of cooperation between BRICS countries and other nations interested in deeper engagement with the group.
Central to the discussions was the topic of international information security, seen as a significant challenge to developing nations. Proposals were made to continue efforts towards establishing a universal international legal framework in the digital realm, grounded in principles such as sovereign equality of states and non-interference in internal affairs.
The Secretaries of the Security Councils also underscored the importance of maintaining a constructive and trusting dialogue, acknowledging the global community's interest in addressing issues of global security. The participants highlighted the growing appeal of the BRICS format to many countries in the Global South and East, as it does not harbor any confrontational or hidden agenda.
The press service of the Russian Security Council emphasized that the outcomes of the meeting contribute to a more equitable architecture of international relations.
Chaired by South Africa, the meeting drew attendees from Brazil, Russia, China, India, South Africa, Iran, Burundi, Egypt, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, UAE and Belarus.
