BRICS Leaders to Discuss Gaza Situation in Emergency Meeting on November 21

BRICS leaders are scheduled to convene via videoconference on November 21 for an extraordinary meeting to address the situation in the Middle East, with a specific focus on the Gaza Strip. The South African Republic, presided over by Cyril Ramaphosa, announced the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the president's press service.

 

According to the press service of Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, currently presiding in BRICS, it has been announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin will be participating in the meeting.

 

"The leaders of the BRICS countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China—will convene for an extraordinary virtual meeting under the South African presidency. They extend an invitation to the leaders of the new BRICS countries, namely Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates," as announced by the South African presidential press service.

 

Following Ramaphosa's opening remarks, representatives from the BRICS members and invited states will deliver statements on behalf of their countries regarding the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is expected to attend the meeting, and it is planned that the participants will collectively adopt a joint statement.

 

In a related development, the ruling party of South Africa, the African National Congress, has reportedly called on authorities to close the Israeli embassy in Pretoria and suspend diplomatic relations with the Jewish state due to its actions in Gaza. This information was reported by the American portal Semafor, citing a document in its possession.
