Reaction to the events in Ukraine in recent weeks indicates the presence of double standards in the international community, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
Speaking at the meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Islamabad, he said that "the bloodshed continues in Libya, Syria and Yemen, and therefore it is unacceptable to distinguish between these events" and what is happening in Ukraine. He stressed that "the situation in Ukraine only demonstrates the existence of double standards in the world community."
"Some people say that Ukraine is not the Middle East or Afghanistan, but this is a false statement. We see no difference between the deaths in Kharkiv or Aleppo, because for us it is the same thing," the Turkish foreign minister said.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to an appeal for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow's plans did not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories; the goal was the demilitarization and denazification of the country. Western countries have responded by imposing both personal and sectoral sanctions, including those related to the Russian government debt and banking sector, and many private companies have decided to suspend operations in Russia or withdraw completely from Russian projects and refuse to invest in them.
