The opposition's calls for Turkey to join the sanctions against Russia are harming the Turkish economy, in particular, the resort city of Antalya. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said this on Thursday at a press conference in Antalya. It was broadcast on his Twitter feed.

"What good do we get from the opposition's calls to join the sanctions against Russia, what is it doing to please the West? The economy, the agricultural producers of Antalya are suffering from this, tourism is being affected," the minister said. According to him, amid the statements of the opposition about the sanctions, the tourist flow from Russia to Antalya in May decreased by 10% compared to last year.

Earlier, Cavusoglu said he believes the opposition is responsible for the decline in tourist flow from Russia. He explained that Russian citizens are afraid to come to Turkey before the May 14 election because they might face sanctions imposed by the republic, including on air service, during their vacation and will not be able to fly back.
