Chiefs of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia and Uzbekistan discussed prospects of military cooperation

The prospects of Russian-Uzbek military cooperation were discussed by the Chiefs of the General Staff of the two countries, Valery Gerasimov and Shukhrat Khalmukhamedov, at a meeting in Moscow on Monday.


"Our military cooperation is an important factor in preserving regional stability. We intend to develop it further," Gerasimov said during the talks.


According to him, the Russian Defense Ministry views Uzbekistan as a strategic partner of Russia in the Central Asian region. "Relations between our states are allied, and the peoples of Russia and Uzbekistan are linked by centuries-old ties of friendship," Gerasimov said.


He proposed to summarize the results of bilateral cooperation and outline prospects for further actions during the meeting, and also congratulated his colleague on his appointment to the post of Chief of the General Staff - First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan.


"I wish you success in service," Gerasimov said.


For his part, Khalmukhamedov said that Russia is Uzbekistan's key ally in the defense sphere. "Russia is our most important and key partner in the military sphere," the republic's Chief of the General Staff said. At the same time, the military commander noted that regular staff talks between the armed forces of the two countries "allow us to analyze the current state of military and military-technical cooperation as well as identify the most promising and important directions for activation in all directions of interaction".
