The Western policy of undermining international law norms persists, resulting in the emergence of new conflicts. In these circumstances, security threats to the CIS countries remain unabated, Sergei Lebedev, the CIS Secretary General, said during the meeting of secretaries of security councils from Commonwealth states.
"The security threats facing our nations continue to grow. The West's pursuit of dismantling fundamental norms and values within international law exacerbates economic development imbalances and sparks the emergence of new conflicts," stated Lebedev.
He noted that the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the situations in Ukraine and Afghanistan are directly linked to the deliberate failure of the West to adhere to relevant United Nations and Security Council resolutions. Lebedev emphasized that the escalating conflict between Palestinian Hamas and Israel worsens human suffering, contributes to extremist ideologies across the board, and significantly heightens the threat of international terrorism.
Lebedev also highlighted that the situation surrounding Ukraine has led to an unprecedented rise in nationalist and neo-Nazi ideologies, with levels of aggression that rival, and in some areas even surpass, those of religious extremist threats. He pointed out that "with the involvement of 'Western partners,' extensive extremist networks have been established, which are actively employed for conducting information and subversive activities in the European part of the CIS." Lebedev cited the recent events at Makhachkala airport as a notable example.
