Mechanisms of crisis response and the use of collective forces were discussed at a meeting of the CSTO Military Committee, which was chaired on Thursday by Valery Gerasimov, chief of the General Staff (GS) of the Russian Armed Forces - First Deputy Defense Minister of Russia.
"The meeting defined the procedure for implementing the proposals made by the defense ministers of CSTO member states on January 13, 2022, during an extraordinary meeting of the CSTO Defense Ministers Council, as regards the improvement of the crisis response mechanism and organization of the use of the organization's collective forces," the Russian defense ministry reported.
"During the meeting, the participants exchanged views on the military and political situation in the regions of collective security and agreed to coordinate joint actions to neutralize threats to military security," the ministry informs.
In addition, the sides considered the issues of joint operational and combat training activities in 2022. They also defined the directions of further work on improvement of international flights of the armed forces of the CSTO countries. The activities of the Military Academy of Material and Technical Support named after Army General A. Khrulev as the basic organization for training military personnel for the CSTO member states in logistics specialties were also assessed.
"It was noted that the results of the meeting of the Military Committee will contribute to strengthening the system of collective security and maintaining regular security," the report said.
The meeting was held via videoconference. The Acting Chief of the Armenian Armed Forces Kamo Kochunts, the Head of the Armed Forces General Staff - First Deputy Defense Minister of Belarus Viktor Gulevich, the First Deputy Defense Minister - Head of the Kazakhstan Armed Forces General Staff Marat Khusainov, the Head of the Kyrgyz Army General Staff Erlis Terdikbayev, the Head of the Armed Forces General Staff - First Deputy Defense Minister of Tajikistan Emomali Sobirzoda, the Head of the CSTO United Staff Anatoly Sidorov and the CSTO Deputy General Secretary Tahir Khairuloyev participated in the meeting by video conference.
