Participants in Thursday's meeting of the working group on Afghanistan at the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) pointed to the need to step up efforts for the post-conflict reconstruction of the country. This is stated in a message published on Friday in the Telegram channel of the CSTO.
CSTO Deputy Secretary-General Samat Ordabaev, delegations of the organization's member states, representatives of the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the CIS and the International Committee of the Red Cross took part in the meeting, the organization said. "During the meeting, Samat Ordabaev stressed the importance of coordinating the positions of CSTO member states on all key aspects of the Afghan issue," the report said. - "Participants of the meeting noted that potential risks and threats related to the activities of terrorist groups, illegal drug trafficking, illegal migration and trafficking in weapons still persist from the Afghan direction."
The CSTO noted the deteriorating economic situation in Afghanistan and the impoverishment of the country's population. "In this regard, the positive role of economic and humanitarian support provided by member states of the organization to the Afghan people was emphasized. The importance of increasing the international community's efforts aimed at post-conflict reconstruction of Afghanistan was emphasized," the organization stressed.
The participants of the meeting summarized the results of the group's work for the second half of 2022, as well as adopted a work plan for the first half of 2023. "The next meeting of the working group is scheduled for the first half of 2023," the CSTO added.
