CSTO Secretary-General Calls Risks of Expanding Conflict in the Middle East Very Real

22 April

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is deeply concerned about the escalation and growing tension in the Middle East, highlighting the very real risks of conflict expansion, CSTO Secretary-General Imangali Tasmagambetov told TASS.

"The CSTO Secretariat observes with alarm and concern the escalation in the Middle East and the overall growth of tension. According to our analysts' assessments, the risks of conflict expansion exist, and they are quite real," he stated.

Tasmagambetov emphasized that a characteristic feature of the modern world, undergoing a period of transformation, is that "many conflicts not only escalate but also spiral out of control." He pointed out that "universal and regional security systems are unable to effectively influence the warring parties."

Assistance in conflict resolution

Tasmagambetov also noted that the CSTO stands ready to assist in conflict resolution if a proper request is made and a mandate is defined.

"Indeed, the CSTO is prepared to utilize the tools at its disposal to settle this conflict (in the Middle East - TASS) in case of a corresponding request and a defined mandate," he affirmed.

According to Tasmagambetov, "the field of possibilities for successfully resolving such conflicts is rapidly shrinking due to fundamentally different views among the world's leading players on the structure of the future world order." He added, "This is a significant problem that must be addressed to prevent further escalation," concluding his statement.
