CSTO Secretary-General Stanislav Zas informed the UN, OSCE and SCO about the peacekeeping operation in Kazakhstan, CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zaynetdinov told reporters on Friday.
"On January 6, 2022, CSTO Secretary-General Stanislav Zas, on behalf of the CSTO Collective Security Council, informed the UN about a peacekeeping operation in Kazakhstan," he said.
According to Zaynetdinov, the organization's Secretary-General sent relevant letters to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, OSCE Secretary-General Helga Schmid and SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov.
The CSTO Secretary-General specified that the CSTO Collective Security Council decided to conduct a peacekeeping operation in the territory of Kazakhstan by CSTO forces and resources based on the appeal of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in connection with a threat to national security and sovereignty, and in accordance with Articles 2 and 4 of the Collective Security Treaty.
