Engineering units of Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh demined 260 hectares, the Defense Ministry said.
"During the operation, the engineering units of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh demined 260 hectares of land, about 100 kilometers of roads, 434 houses. More than 8.6 thousand explosive objects were found and neutralized," the statement says.
The peacekeepers are now completing the demining of the northern outskirts of Stepanakert.
"The detected explosive objects and unexploded ammunition are being removed and destroyed at a specially equipped landfill. Ammunition that cannot be evacuated is destroyed on site with all the necessary security measures in place," the report adds.
At the end of September, the hostilities resumed in Nagorno-Karabakh, which became a continuation of the long-standing conflict and resulted in civilian casualties. The sides made several attempts to conclude a ceasefire, but a trilateral agreement reached on the night of November 10 was successful. With Moscow mediating, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a complete cease-fire and to an exchange of prisoners and dead bodies. Yerevan also gave Kelbajar, Lachin and Agdam districts to Baku. In addition, Russian peacekeepers were stationed in the region.
