Electricity is out across Syria after an explosion on a gas pipeline

As a result of an explosion on a gas pipeline near Damascus, power was cut off throughout Syria, the state news agency SANA reported, citing the country's Electricity Minister, Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutli.


The report says that the explosion occurred on the segment between the districts of Dumayr and Adra. According to the Syrian Electricity Minister, this is the sixth explosion of this kind.


Kharboutli added that the Ministry of Electricity together with the Ministry of Oil was working to eliminate the consequences of the explosion and expected to restore electricity in the country within a few hours.


Syrian Oil Minister Ali Suleiman Ghanem did not rule out that the explosion could have been a terrorist act.
