Erdogan Calls on West to Fulfill Promises Made to Russia Regarding Grain Deal

11 September 2023

The West needs to fulfill the promises given to Russia in the situation with the grain deal, stated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to journalists from his press delegation upon his return from the G20 summit held in India.

"At this point, Western countries need to take action and fulfull their promises. We've discussed President Putin's offer to provide 1 million tons of grain initially. We will request Mr. Putin to consider increasing this volume. Moreover, it's crucial for the West to fulfill its obligations in this regard. It's not just about grain; there are also fertilizer considerations. The matter of fertilizers should not be underestimated," Erdogan stated, as reported by TRT TV channel.

Erdogan finds Russia's demands regarding the grain deal to be clear and straightforward.

"Russia's demands are clear and straightforward. There are several issues Moscow believes remain unresolved. They are seeking the establishment of a payment mechanism to receive funds for the grain they intend to send through this corridor. Additionally, they are requesting the removal of restrictions on insurance for their ships. We are actively working to address these concerns and achieve tangible outcomes," Erdogan explained.

He further emphasized that "the collective aspiration of the leaders at the G20 summit was to revive the grain deal." "While Western countries acknowledge Turkey's endeavors, they must also take actions and fulfill their promises," he stated.
