On Wednesday, Qatar Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. According to the Qatari foreign ministry, "the two sides expressed their condemnation of the repeated Israeli incursions into the territory of the Al-Aqsa Mosque."
The foreign ministers "called on the international community to take urgent measures to stop systematic Israeli escalatory moves against the Palestinian people, their territories and Islamic and Christian shrines," the ministry said in a statement issued.
The two sides also discussed bilateral relations, the situation in Afghanistan and recent decisions by its interim government to ban Afghan women from working in national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as restrictions on women's education.
Earlier, the Jerusalem Post reported that Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir ascended the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City. His appearance under police guard at the Al-Aqsa Mosque caused widespread outrage in the Arab public. Former Prime Minister and Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid warned that such a Ben-Gvir demarche would cause a new round of tension with the Palestinians and Arab countries. "The Jerusalem Post notes that the Israeli politician's visit to the Temple Mount was coordinated with Netanyahu."
