Foreign Ministry: US and its satellites launch massive cyber operation against Russia

29 March 2022

Russia will seek accountability for those involved in cyber aggression against the country, the Russian MFA said Tuesday.

"Against the background of a special military operation to protect the DNR and LNR, the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the US and its satellites are undertaking a massive cyber operation against our country. Practically on a daily basis, state institutions, mass media, critical infrastructure, and life support systems are subjected to powerful strikes using advanced information and communication technologies. At the instigation of the Kiev regime, an "international call" of anti-Russian computer specialists has been announced, essentially forming an "offensive cyber force". The number of malicious attacks against us is in the hundreds of thousands a day," the ministry said.

The department said the cyber aggression will lead to severe consequences for its instigators and perpetrators.

"The unprecedented scale of these actions and their coordinated nature clearly indicate that, in addition to the Ukrainian special units of information and technical influence trained by the US and other NATO, anonymous hackers and provocateurs acting at the direction of the Western handlers of the Kiev regime are increasingly involved in waging this cyberwar against us. In fact, an army of cyber mercenaries is waging war against us, facing specific combat tasks, often bordering on open terrorism," the diplomatic office pointed out.

"No one should have any doubts: cyber aggression unleashed against Russia will lead to severe consequences for its instigators and perpetrators. The sources of the attacks will be identified and the attackers will inevitably bear responsibility for their actions, as required by law," reads the statement of the diplomatic mission.

Smolensk Square noted that Russian specialized structures effectively counter cyberattacks and "give them a powerful repulse." "Strengthening of ICT security in the current environment becomes one of the main tasks in the line of reliable national security of the country. Efforts to promote specialized initiatives will be intensified on international platforms, first and foremost at the UN. The work on strengthening legal protection of Russian individuals and legal entities against malicious cyber interference from the outside will continue," the ministry said.
