Hamas Says Restrictions on Temple Mount during Ramadan Will Not Go Unpunished

19 February

The Israeli authorities' decision to restrict the admission of Palestinians from the West Bank to Jerusalem's Temple Mount during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan will not go unpunished. The Palestinian movement Hamas said in a statement published on its Telegram channel.

"In this regard, we warn the [Israeli] enemy and assure that attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and freedom of religion will not go unpunished," the text reads.

On February 18, a source in the Israeli government told TASS that the authorities of the Jewish state will restrict the admission of Palestinians from the West Bank to the Temple Mount during Ramadan. According to the source, "restrictions on entry to the Temple Mount have been introduced for Arabs from Judea and Samaria (the Israeli designation for the West Bank of the Jordan River - TASS) - [only] people over 60 years of age and children under 10 years of age and no more than 15,000 people will be admitted." The agency's interlocutor added that "the question of whether restrictions should be imposed on Israeli Arabs and residents of [East] Jerusalem will be decided by the police; so far there is no decision [on this matter]." Ramadan, according to Arab astronomers, falls in 2024 between March 11 and April 9.
