Indonesia demanded the West to abandon double standards in sanctions

19 April 2022

Indonesian Parliament Vice Speaker Hidayat Noor Wahid demanded that Western countries abandon "double standards" when sanctions are imposed against Russia but overlook "Israeli crimes against worshippers from the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem."

"The international community, especially the West, which has imposed sanctions against Russia, should not apply double standards. The Western world must work to end the Israeli apartheid system against Palestine," the Detik news portal quoted the politician as saying.

According to him, "the crimes committed are proof of Israel's violations of UN resolutions." "However, the West's silence legitimizes crimes, state-level terrorism and radicalism, which Israel has repeatedly demonstrated," Wahid said. The deputy speaker also noted "the tragic fact that Israeli attacks on the al-Aqsa Mosque have become more violent and barbaric since the normalization of relations with several Islamic states."

The imam of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Akram Sabri, told the Al Jazeera TV channel that the reason for the clashes on the Temple Mount on April 15 was the provocation of Jewish settlers, who were supported by the Israeli security forces who detained at least 400 people. The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that 153 Arabs needed medical treatment after the Israeli police used riot gear, and at least 30 worshipers were taken to hospitals with rubber bullet wounds. There were also at least eight Israelis wounded.
