Iran claims that Israel was prepared to make concessions in the Gaza conflict to avoid retaliation for an attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus. Major General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) space forces, stated that Israel conveyed its willingness to compromise through the Egyptian foreign minister.
"Israel has sent a message through the Egyptian foreign minister that it is ready to make concessions in the war in the Gaza Strip to prevent Iran from retaliating," Tasnim quoted him as saying. "The escalation of the war has cost the Zionist regime (Israel - TASS) dearly. They thought that Iran would not respond to their crime, but only resistance forces would act instead of the Islamic Republic," Hajizadeh added. He claimed that 221 Israeli fighter jets were put on standby to counter any potential Iranian response.
The Islamic Resistance Forces, also known as the "Axis of Resistance," comprises mainly Muslim, predominantly Shiite, paramilitary groups. These include the Palestinian Hamas movement, Lebanon's Hezbollah party, Iraq's Islamic Resistance of Iraq militia, Yemen's Ansar Allah movement, as well as the Zainabiyoun (comprised of Shia Pakistanis) and Fatimiyoun (comprised of Shia Afghans).
On April 13, Iran launched drones and missiles toward Israel, citing it as a response to "numerous crimes," including an attack attributed to Israel on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus. Iranian state media reported that the targets of the strikes on Israel were military installations. The Israel Defense Forces claimed to have intercepted 99% of the Iranian shells aimed at the country, causing minor damage to the Nevatim airbase.
