Iran Claims Operation Against Israel Altered Middle East Power Balance

17 April

Iran asserts that its recent operation against Israel has shifted the power balance in the Middle East.

Operation True Promise, a series of extensive missile and drone strikes targeting Israel, carried out by the Iranian Armed Forces in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, has shifted the balance of power in the region. This viewpoint was expressed by Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, in a message addressed to Army Commander Major General Abdulrahim Mousavi on National Army Day.

"Inarguably, this strategic and multifaceted military operation, carried out in adherence to the principles of legitimate defense and universally accepted international laws and norms, has shifted the power dynamics in the Middle East region and reaffirmed the deterrent capabilities of our armed forces against those hostile to Islam and Iran," quoted Iran's Press TV, citing the document. Abdollahian also noted that these actions have bolstered "the spirit of patriotism among Iranians."

On the evening of April 13, Iran launched drones and missiles towards Israel, citing it as a response to numerous transgressions, including the aforementioned airstrike on its embassy section in Damascus. Tehran clarified that its strikes targeted military installations within Israel. The Israel Defense Forces reported intercepting approximately 99 percent of the roughly 350 Iranian projectiles aimed at the Jewish state, resulting in minimal damage to the Nevatim air base. Iran's Foreign Ministry asserted that Tehran's objective is not to escalate tensions in the Middle East, but to retaliate against any unlawful and irrational acts directed towards the republic.
