During a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in Tehran, Iranian Defense and Armed Forces Support Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani emphasized the significant progress in bilateral defense relations between Moscow and Tehran over the past decade.`
"Over the past decade, our defense and security relations have experienced remarkable growth. Your visit and the signing of the memorandum of understanding mark the beginning of an entirely new and fundamentally different era in our bilateral relations," he remarked.
"Our relations," the minister continued, "have also been bolstered by the unwavering support of our respective leaders, which serves as a guarantee of security and stability in the region. Your personal contribution to our bilateral ties cannot be overstated," Ashtiani said, addressing Shoigu. He highlighted that there are currently "significant shifts in the global order."
"Many countries are now contemplating the creation of a multipolar world, and it's heartening to observe that European countries are among them," the minister emphasized. He pointed out that "meetings within the SCO organization, as well as BRICS, demonstrate that many countries are shifting toward a multipolar orientation."
Ashtiani also highlighted that "in recent years, Russia and Iran have significantly broadened the spectrum of their cooperation." He specifically mentioned regional concerns, particularly the joint efforts in combating terrorism and extremism.
According to the Iranian minister, global events have unfolded in a manner that has provided Russia and Iran with "all the necessary foundations for establishing a robust and enduring alliance." He expressed confidence that their collaboration would contribute to peace and stability on the international stage. Ashtiani noted that there are several international and regional issues he would like to discuss with the Russian defense minister.
