Iran nuclear deal talks move to agreement on draft decisions

Participants of the Joint commission of Iran and the international "Five" (Germany, France, Great Britain, China and Russia) start coordinating drafts of necessary decisions at negotiations on restoration of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna, said on Monday.

"Based on the results of two weeks of work on restoring the JCPOA, we can state that negotiations are entering the phase of agreeing on drafts of necessary decisions (the so-called drafting)," Ulyanov wrote on Twitter. He added that there is still much work to be done before the practical results are achieved. However, it is important that the negotiators have moved on from general words to specifics.

Two face-to-face Joint commission meetings were held last week to discuss the prospects for a possible return of the US (withdrew from the deal in 2018) to the JCPOA and how to ensure full and effective implementation of the Iranian nuclear agreement by all parties. Commission participants continue to discuss ways to restore the nuclear deal at informal meetings in various formats, including at the expert level.
