27 March 2023

Iranian and Saudi Foreign Ministers Hossein Amir Abdollahian and Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud discussed by phone the normalization of relations between the countries. The Islamic Republic's foreign ministry announced this on Monday.

"The foreign minister of Iran discussed with his Saudi counterpart in a telephone conversation the agreement between Tehran and Riyadh [on the normalization of relations] and the upcoming meeting of the two high-ranking diplomats," the ministry said in a statement posted on its Twitter page.

The Saudi Press Agency reported Thursday that the ministers agreed to meet soon. Earlier, Abdollahian said he planned to meet with Prince Faisal on neutral territory. According to him, Tehran offered Riyadh three countries that could organize their meeting.

On March 10, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to restore diplomatic relations and reopen embassies within two months. Representatives of the two countries negotiated for several days in Beijing, following which they prepared a trilateral statement.
