Iranian and Syrian Foreign Ministers Meet in Damascus to Address Gaza Conflict

04 June

Iranian Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani and his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad are currently engaged in talks in Damascus, according to the IRNA news agency.

The meeting's primary focus is on discussing the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and the need to halt Israel's military operation in the Palestinian enclave. The talks also aim to strengthen cooperation between Iran and Syria.

Bagheri arrived in Damascus on June 4 and is scheduled to hold further discussions with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in addition to his meetings with Foreign Minister Mekdad.

Prior to his visit to Syria, Bagheri traveled to Lebanon on June 3. This was his first foreign trip as acting foreign minister. During his time in Beirut, he met with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib.  The visit concluded with a meeting between Bagheri Kani and Sheikh Hassan Nasrullah, leader of the Shiite Hezbollah party, along with representatives of Palestinian Islamic resistance groups.
