President Ebrahim Raisi of the Islamic Republic conveyed the perspective that the US administration has come to recognize the limited effectiveness of imposing sanctions on Iran or employing threats as diplomatic tools during a meeting with American foreign policy experts.
"The US must have come to the realization that employing the language of force, whether through sanctions or threats against the Iranian people, has proven to be an ineffective approach in diplomatic engagement. Our counsel to the American government is straightforward: cease the imposition of sanctions on other nations," he stated, as reported by the ISNA news agency.
"After assuming the role of US President, Joe Biden voiced his disagreement with the previous administration's stance on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action concerning Iran's nuclear program. Nevertheless, in practice, we have yet to witness any substantive shifts in their approach. If US officials wish to align their actions with their stated commitments, we anticipate seeing tangible evidence of it," Raisi asserted.
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, he attributed the responsibility for its continuation to the American side. "The war persists, fueled by American taxpayers' funds, which end up lining the pockets of arms industry magnates. <...> We urge US authorities to cease military actions because, in the past 250 years, Americans have been involved in armed conflicts for only 20 of those years," emphasized the President of the Islamic Republic. He also reiterated his denial of any Iranian arms deliveries to Russia and underscored Iran's stance against war while expressing readiness to mediate for its resolution.
The Iranian president arrived in New York on Monday to participate in the UN General Assembly session. During discussions with reporters, he acknowledged the potential for new "humanitarian steps" between Tehran and Washington following the prisoner exchange agreement's implementation.
