Israel Conducts Missile Attack on Iranian Advisors' Headquarters Near Damascus

29 January

The Israeli Air Force has launched a missile attack on the headquarters of Iranian advisors in the Syrian suburb of Sitt Zaynab. This location houses the Al-Quds special forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces. This information was reported by the Al Hadath TV channel.

The military facility was targeted by three missile strikes, along with an attack on a camp of Shiite fighters aligned with the Syrian army. This camp is situated on a farm in the Aqraba neighborhood, south of Damascus.

Sham FM reported explosions on the outskirts of Damascus, indicating that Syria's air defenses retaliated against enemy targets in the city's sky. No further details regarding the aftermath of the air raid were provided.

The Tasnim news agency reported that two individuals were killed in the strikes, while several others were injured.

This attack comes amidst escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. On December 25, 2023, IRGC General Razi Mousavi, who led a team of Iranian military advisors in Syria, was killed in a southern suburb of Damascus. On January 20, 2024, General Yousef Omid Zadeh, commander of the IRGC's Al-Quds intelligence service, was also killed in an Israeli Air Force strike on a mansion in the Mezzeh neighborhood of Damascus. In response, Iran's leadership vowed to avenge Israel for the deaths of its two military leaders. The IRGC stated, "The occupying Israeli regime will bear the consequences of these actions."
