On Tuesday, the Jordanian foreign ministry summoned the Israeli ambassador after an Israeli police officer prevented the Jordanian ambassador in Tel Aviv from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem's Old City. This was stated in a statement posted on the Kingdom's foreign ministry Twitter page.
"The Jordanian ministry of foreign affairs and expatriates summoned the Israeli ambassador in Amman Tuesday afternoon after an Israeli police officer prevented the Jordanian ambassador in Tel Aviv from entering the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque," the statement reads.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Sinan al-Majali said that a note of protest was handed to the Israeli ambassador. Al-Majali noted that the Jordanian government condemns any illegal interference in the affairs of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Amman recalled that the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Authority of the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places is the only legitimate authority in charge of managing the mosque and organizing access to the shrine.
