Israeli Defense Minister Declares Full Blockade of the Gaza Strip

09 October 2023

Israel is imposing a full blockade on the Gaza Strip, cutting off the supply of food, fuel, and electricity to the Palestinian enclave. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant announced this measure on Monday.

"I have given the order - Gaza will be placed under a complete blockade. There will be no deliveries of electricity, food, or fuel to the Gaza Strip. We are dealing with barbarians, and our response will be accordingly," stated the minister after a strategic meeting. His remarks were conveyed by the Defense Ministry's press service.

Previously, Daniel Hagari, the official spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces, revealed that the Israeli military had regained control of settlements near the Gaza Strip's border, which had been infiltrated by militants from the radical Palestinian group Hamas on October 7. He further explained that the Israeli army was transitioning into the offensive phase of Operation Iron Swords, with the ultimate objective being the complete eradication of Hamas from the Gaza Strip.
