13 October 2023

Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi stated on Thursday that Israel has violated international humanitarian law by preventing the delivery of aid to the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip.

"The international community bears responsibility for the situation," - the deputy prime minister stated. - "The UN Security Council must take action to ensure the lifting of the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in the deprivation of residents of essential necessities such as water, fuel, and electricity."

As al-Safadi emphasized, the suffering of the civilian population is worsening every day due to the military escalation. "The residents of Gaza, including children, women, and the elderly, deserve immediate action to protect them from the entire international community," he noted.

Earlier, at a meeting in Amman, Jordan's King Abdullah II and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for an end to violence in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, warning that further military escalation would exacerbate the humanitarian crisis.

On Thursday, Jordan sent a plane to Egypt with humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and relief items intended for the Palestinian population. However, Israeli authorities prevented the humanitarian cargo from entering Gaza.
