Kazakhstan is ready to provide a venue for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in case of application

Kazakhstan is ready to provide a venue for talks between Russia and Ukraine, but so far there are no such agreements, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi said on Monday.

"Of course, the human losses are of great concern. It is clear that both the Russian and Ukrainian people are fraternal peoples for us, so we are, of course, worried. For our part, we are ready to help in any way we can, so that mediation services can be used. We are ready to provide a platform for negotiations, if both sides deem it necessary," the minister said on the sidelines of the UN Council on Human Rights.

Tleuberdi was quoted by Foreign Ministry spokesman Aybek Smadirov as saying that no agreements on this issue have been reached so far.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to an appeal for help from the leaders of the Donbas republics. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include occupation of Ukrainian territories; the goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian military does not strike cities, but only disables military infrastructure, so the civilian population is not threatened.
