Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov thanked Russia for its help in stabilizing the situation after the October events.
"The rebellious people achieved the resignation of the president and the government and the cancellation of the election results. We managed to stabilize the situation. We express our enormous gratitude to all the countries that have provided us with invaluable assistance, especially Russia, as well as our neighbors, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan," he said at the inauguration ceremony.
Kyrgyzstan will continue to pursue a multi-vector policy by strengthening relations with strategic partners, he said. "We share a common fate and history. Strengthening ties with our strategic partners is our way," Japarov said.
Last October, mass protests erupted in Kyrgyzstan against the results of the parliamentary elections. After clashes between protesters and security forces, supporters of opposition parties that did not make it into parliament seized the parliament building where the presidential administration is located. More than 1.2 thousand people were injured in the clashes, one was killed. The government resigned and the election results were annulled. After the voluntary resignation of President Sooronbai Jeenbekov, the situation in the republic stabilized, and the protests ceased. Opposition leader Sadyr Japarov became the acting president and prime minister, who later stepped down in order to participate in the elections as an ordinary citizen.
The early presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan were held on January 10. Turnout was low, with less than 40% of the total number of voters in attendance. Of these, 79.2% of the votes were given to Sadyr Japarov. Former speaker of the country Adakhan Madumarov came in second place with 6.7% of the votes.
