Bishkek is ready to provide a platform and necessary assistance for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev said on Saturday at a press conference following a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"Kyrgyzstan welcomes the start of negotiations between representatives of Russia and Ukraine, and also supports any mediation efforts in this direction. If necessary, it expresses its readiness to provide a platform and provide the necessary assistance so that peace and mutual understanding can be established," he said.
The foreign minister also said that Russia and Ukraine must not be pushed to continue the conflict and allow the situation to escalate into a global confrontation between countries and peoples.
"We are following the development of the situation in Ukraine with great anxiety and concern. First, it is especially tragic that the current conflict involves two fraternal peoples - Russian and Ukrainian. It has not been possible to avoid human casualties. Today we are witnessing an unprecedented crisis in world post-war history. The world is on the verge of a catastrophe; there is no guarantee that our civilization will be able to recover from it. Under no circumstances should we push the sides to continue the conflict," he said.
On February 24, the Russian president announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to an appeal for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories; the goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. After that, the US, the EU, the UK, and a number of other states announced that they were imposing sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities.
