Lavrov Arrives at BRICS Summit in South Africa

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, to personally represent Russia at the upcoming BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit, as reported by a TASS correspondent.

 

Lavrov's plane touched down at the South African Air Force Base Waterkloof, replicating his January visit to Pretoria.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate fully in the summit through videoconferencing. One of the agenda points for the Russian leader is to apprise the attendees about the focal areas of Russia's presidency within the association for the year 2024.

 

Scheduled from August 22 to 24 in Johannesburg, the BRICS summit is set to be a significant gathering of heads of state and government from the Global South, with participation from leaders of 54 African nations. The final accords reached during the event will be documented in the Johannesburg Declaration of the XV BRICS summit, as communicated by the Kremlin's press service.
