Lavrov briefed Saudi foreign minister on developments in Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov briefed Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Friday in a telephone conversation about developments in Ukraine and Russian approaches to negotiations with Kiev.

 

"Lavrov informed bin Farhan in detail about developments in the situation in Ukraine in light of the implementation of the special military operation and outlined our principled approaches with regard to the possibility of negotiations with the Ukrainian authorities. It was especially emphasized that when solving the tasks of demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the priority is to ensure the safety of the civilian population," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.


The foreign ministers also discussed in detail the priority issues of further strengthening of mutually beneficial bilateral relations.


On March 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. In particular, the Kremlin reported, the Russian leader emphasized the unacceptability of politicizing global energy issues.
