Russia considers it necessary to stop any outside interference in Sudan's internal affairs, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday at a press conference following talks with Guinea-Bissau Foreign Minister Suzi Carla Barbosa.
"The premise is that any interference in the internal affairs of this country must cease," he said. - "The Sudanese people must determine their own destiny, we expect that all those who are now trying to oppose this principle will realize their responsibility to prevent another hotbed of destabilization on the long-suffering African continent".
The minister recalled that Russia initially tried its best to preserve the territorial integrity and unity of Sudan, but a number of players led by the US decided that it would be better for Sudanese to live in different states. "The Russian Federation did a lot to make this 'divorce' peaceful, but after it another interference began: approaches to how Sudanese should build democracy in its Western understanding were imposed, shocking reforms were imposed, and the reaction was the opposite. The socio-economic situation of the population has sharply deteriorated, unemployment, the traditional structure of Sudanese society is under serious strain," Lavrov stressed.
