Lavrov calls US and NATO policies the main cause of the crisis in Ukraine

The main cause of the crisis in Ukraine is the policy pursued by the United States and NATO, which have pumped weapons into the country in violation of the commitments they have made, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who is attending the third ministerial conference of Afghanistan's neighboring countries (Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan), said on Thursday.

"The main reason for the crisis in Ukraine is the policy pursued for several decades by NATO under the leadership of the United States," he said when asked by Xinhua News Agency about the causes of the Ukrainian crisis. The minister's answers were published Thursday by the Russian MFA.

The minister pointed out that after the Soviet Union collapsed, they continued to push the military infrastructure further east, pumped Ukraine with weapons and set up a military infrastructure there. "This threatened Russia's security and was a serious violation of the decisions taken in the OSCE and in the framework of Russia-NATO relations not to strengthen one's security at the expense of the security of others," the Russian foreign minister stressed.
