Lavrov Foresees Significant Outcomes from BRICS Summit's Top-Level Discussions

Russia foresees the culmination of substantial decisions alongside its BRICS counterparts during the upcoming summit scheduled for Kazan in October 2024, as announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting of the United Russia party's international cooperation and support for compatriots abroad commission.

 

"Our BRICS leadership tenure will emphasize strengthening multilateralism for fair global development and security. Spread across over a dozen Russian cities, more than two hundred events focusing on political, economic, and social themes will lead up to the pinnacle at the BRICS summit in Kazan this October," - remarked the minister. - "In collaboration with our partners, we anticipate decisive agreements to be ratified at the highest levels across key areas of cooperation."

 

Lavrov also emphasized forthcoming engagements on the summit's margins, citing the significance of formats like BRICS Plus and Outreach summits. "Participation in these forums will extend to leaders from numerous developing nations, notably our close neighbors and allies within the post-Soviet sphere," he added.

 

The BRICS coalition comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa expanded its reach at the Johannesburg summit in August. It was decided to extend full membership invitations to Argentina, Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia effective January 1, 2024.
