Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.

It is noted that the parties discussed the military-political and socio-economic situation in Yemen.

"The emphasis was placed on the need to support the UN efforts to reach agreements on a ceasefire between the warring parties, implement urgent humanitarian measures and launch a comprehensive post — conflict settlement process," the report said.

Lavrov stressed that "progress towards the establishment of long-awaited peace and stability in Yemen is possible only by taking into account the interests and concerns of all the leading political forces, religious groups and regions of this country, as well as combining the efforts of "external players".

"In this context, the attention of the Saudi Minister was drawn to the Russian initiative to develop a concept of security in the Persian Gulf," the Foreign Ministry said.

The report says that "the parties agreed  to continue regular "checking of notes" on the Yemeni and other relevant Middle East agenda, including in the context of relevant multilateral events within the framework of the upcoming UN General Assembly."

In addition, the Foreign Ministers discussed topical issues on the bilateral agenda.

Earlier it was reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin held telephone talks with King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud of Saudi Arabia.
