Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held discussions with permanent representatives of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the United Nations, exploring the potential for a consultative meeting in Moscow to address the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, the Russian MFA reports.
"On January 24 in New York, Minister Lavrov convened with permanent representatives of OIC member countries at the UN. The discussions centered around the unprecedented escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Minister Lavrov provided insights into the main outcomes of his participation in the Security Council meeting on the Middle East the previous day, outlining Russia's perspective on the current turbulent developments in the region," a statement released after the meeting reads.
The statement affirmed the alignment of approaches between the Russian Federation and the Muslim world concerning Middle East issues, including the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
"The Russian initiative proposes the establishment of constructive multilateral cooperation in the sphere of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement. This involves holding a consultative meeting in Moscow, with the participation of regional countries and international players interested in sincere and honest dialogue," the report emphasized.
Highlighting the significance of coordinating the stances of external stakeholders on the Palestinian-Israeli issue, Lavrov underscored during the conversation that "it is crucial to consolidate the approaches of external players to this matter, aiming to stabilize the situation on the ground and lay the groundwork for the initiation of the negotiation process."
